CEEMET was invited to talk at a hearing organised by the
Employment and Social Affairs Committee of the European Parliament on 5 October. Terry Woolmer
(EEF) presented CEEMET’s position at the hearing. Starting with an overview of
what electromagnetic fields are (natural or manmade and created when
electricity is used), and underlining the lack of information regarding costs
and benefits of the proposed initiative, he emphasized the need for the
Directive to be proportionate to the risk and functional. He indicated that in
spite of improvements achieved with the Commissions’ proposal, there are still
concerns regarding a potential prohibition of common processes that do not
cause adverse health effects. Please
